Tina Goes to the Fair! (pt 4)

This is Part 4! Read from Part 1!

Tina moved from the Rainforest to Junior Exhibits to see what the kids are into these days. She saw lots of high school art projects

But her favorite thing was the handmade wooden rocking cow.

Speaking of cows...

Tina saw more than enough cows at the Livestock Pavilion. Here, 4-H kids showcase their animals for prizes, and some of them enter their animals into the Fair's annual livestock auction.

The kids also show goats, sheep, and swine.

In another part of the Pavilion, baby chicks were hatching and beginning their wee lives

Among the baby animals was a brand new little of baby pigs!

Tina Goes to the Fair! (pt 3)

This is Part 3! Read from Part 1!

Tina's ventured out of the Greenhouse and into the Rainforest at the Big Fresno Fair, hoping to catch a glimpse of some exotic animals. Here she is visiting her freshwater cousin, the Red-Eared Slider!

There were some impressive butterfly collection displays

And a little tree frog!

This little guy was sleeping, but still pretty cool!

The macaws were super beautiful and super loud. Tina wondered why they sat on their branches all day long without being tied down.

Finally, Tina got to check out this baby crocodile!

Tina Goes to the Fair! (pt 2)

This is Part 2! Check out Part 1!

Tina's favorite bonsai trees are the ones with fruit! Here is a pomegranate bonsai. The seeds inside are regular sized, and the tiny fruit only holds less than 20 of them.

Next on Tina's tour of the Greenhouse at the Big Fresno Fair is the cactus and succulent section.

Entries include singular plants and rock garden dishes.

Behold, the dangers of getting too close to the cactus! Don't get stuck like Tina did!

Tina also took a little detour to check out the fish bowl gardens, which do not necessarily have to include cacti

On her way out of the building, Tina stopped to smell the flowers. That day's daily flowers to be exact: roses, both regular and miniature. You can just see the little smile on her little turtle face!

Tina Goes to the Fair! (pt 1)

Every year, Ted and Tina's family/handlers work at the Big Fresno Fair. This year, Tina was lucky enough to take a walk around the grounds.

Obviously, the first stop for any morning fair-goer must be the Country Fair Cinnamon Roll stand. Julie orders an original roll with cream cheese frosting, while B (of http://cachingontheroad.blogspot.com/) LOVES getting a plain original roll extracted from the very center of the pan.

Here is a face frequent readers may recognize, although most of the time only her hands were in the photos. Jenny was Ted's handler on his cross-country trip. She also is the superintendent of the Greenhouse at the Fair. She took a break off from being busy busy busy to give Tina a tour.

The Greenhouse is split into two halves, a professional side and a student side. All the plants on the student side are available for bidding. Here Tina surveys the plants for sale, although she was not too fond of the dry plants. The Greenhouse doesn't showcase aquatic plants (yet).

The Greenhouse also houses a domestic bird display from Whitie's Pets. The yellow bird in this photo was kind of a staff favorite, he only had one leg. He was still very happy and active, though. Tina thought he was a trooper!

Tina got to experience the joys of bonsai at the Fair: being small enough that they ALMOST look like real trees!

Tina even found something smaller than she is! The miniature flower arrangements!

Meet Tina! (and upcoming events)

Tina is the newest addition to our little stuffed traveling family. Tina the Traveling Turtle is Ted's brand new girlfriend (although she has been on a few outings prior to this posting). At the moment, Ted is on a mission to infiltrate the local high school cafeteria kitchen, so Tina is updating the blog for him.

Tina is a genuine BLUE sea turtle, hailing from Pismo Beach, CA, just like Ted. They met in the local kite shop, while checking out some pretty rad photo magnets and beach toys. Although she loves Ted very much and will be very sad to leave him, Tina is destined to join the company of T&B of http://cachingontheroad.blogspot.com/ . Tina will then be providing regular updates to this blog while Ted and his good buddies (Julie and C) are studying hard and working hard, respectively.

UPCOMING TINA & TED EVENTS:

Pre-Thanksgiving (tenative): Tina will(/may) be traveling to the Oregon coast to visit Julie's aunts recently built house.
Thanksgiving: Ted & Tina will travel to beautiful Bakersfield to spend time with Julie and C's family
Pre-Christmas: Ted or Tina will be flying all the way to gorgeous MEXICO, crossing international borders for the VERY FIRST TIME! Yay!
New Years: Tina will be leaving with T&B for about 6 months, Ted may be traveling to celebrate New Years Eve in the OC :)

Ted Goes on Summer Vacation! (part 6)

Ted's final stop for his summer vacation was to the beautiful Pismo Beach for the annual Clayton Family Reunion. Tradition dictates that the Clayton family first started visiting Pismo in August to clam the shores. Now we just go and BBQ some huge oysters.

Ted didn't like the idea of getting grilled like these oysters (and other things) but he said "anything for a photo op!"

Every time cousin Ryan sees Ted he says "you know, I love Ted the Turtle" while slowly grabbing him out of Julie's hand.

This is the only way Ted could hang out with the cool cousins.

A trip to Pismo is not complete without a visit to Old West Cinnamon Rolls, only the best cinnamon rolls this side of the Big Fresno Fair (coming soon!)

Ted chose not to journey into the Pismo Caves, although they looked both challenging and exciting.

Ted did find some cool barnacles though! Doesn't he look right at home?

Ted got to visit Mo's Famous BBQ before he left Pismo.

He even managed to leave without very much of Mo's Sweet Caroline BBQ Sauce on him.

And so ends Ted's Summer Vacation 2011. Stay tuned next week for a special announcement regarding Ted and a new friend he found at the beach!

Ted Goes on Summer Vacaction! (part 5)

Ted's first art related stop was at the "World's Smallest Art Gallery". Truly, the gallery is smaller than a closet and houses rotating exhibits by local artists.

Julie discovered the Panorama setting on her new camera and loves it. Can you find Ted in this panorama shot of the boardwalk and the beach?

Ted paid a whole dollar to get his picture taken with Predator (made out of mechanical parts) so you better enjoy it!

Here is Ted in front of a Venice Beach tribute to Starry Night (in spray paint).

And when Ted was driving back home (to TERI's house) the traffic was so bad, he was embarrassed to have his picture taken with it.
