<br />
I am told that in this photo, Brooklyn should be in the background. I can't see it, maybe you can?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY7LDaNbYNjCIz9VAHl12YCCmySpH3SyNORM7JokxrjunYzvLNU4q9qij2a4PVA-MsCh9WfDdM1jsBytxCjK1aw0JxxsGHfQ-iKn7u-HiW4CKplHA4RmMemR1BUaizkCz9qmPmVGXbyxo/s1600/IMG_0209.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY7LDaNbYNjCIz9VAHl12YCCmySpH3SyNORM7JokxrjunYzvLNU4q9qij2a4PVA-MsCh9WfDdM1jsBytxCjK1aw0JxxsGHfQ-iKn7u-HiW4CKplHA4RmMemR1BUaizkCz9qmPmVGXbyxo/s320/IMG_0209.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Next, Ted made his way over to check out Ivy League Princeton. If only turtles could make it into college...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCBkNB6Ws4Q02Ci3yP1MCP6cePCmC1DehFLwCz3d_Swd_DyoaRpXlpgdeRwfdZ62GqCxb4NSG7sdewcOhdVC52OF5bxgMYm6RuWjSD9X3jpOteloDx7f0Ls7NmD4WpHxfHrmYzKMVkKbI/s1600/IMG_0212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCBkNB6Ws4Q02Ci3yP1MCP6cePCmC1DehFLwCz3d_Swd_DyoaRpXlpgdeRwfdZ62GqCxb4NSG7sdewcOhdVC52OF5bxgMYm6RuWjSD9X3jpOteloDx7f0Ls7NmD4WpHxfHrmYzKMVkKbI/s320/IMG_0212.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

And our little turtle made some time to check out the changing East Coast leaves. On the West Coast, the leaves don't change color. They are either on the tree or off of it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUka-CM7Tt7onKDG2tl-MCV_tY5EGkTEkI6j1OciGGugOG0UXmoLka4Jw8ReWmTcjnajQJ-UIcUD1Kq0pRz_zKOVoxHSjU_rYtyoKjk4Wca5ySmBCoJ8Rki36LmqBxpAgPivMvDZ0vVgU/s1600/IMG_0220.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUka-CM7Tt7onKDG2tl-MCV_tY5EGkTEkI6j1OciGGugOG0UXmoLka4Jw8ReWmTcjnajQJ-UIcUD1Kq0pRz_zKOVoxHSjU_rYtyoKjk4Wca5ySmBCoJ8Rki36LmqBxpAgPivMvDZ0vVgU/s320/IMG_0220.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Though you might not know it, Ted is a bit of a foodie. So he took some time to check out House of Cupcakes in New Jersey, where Food Network films Cupcake Wars. M, Ted's NYC buddy suggests the Oreo cupcake. Ted, of course, got the turtle cupcake.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAFEgfOIOv5jo89ix4p7uGwleTw9l9QLRvCZ-CIW3fziUxkSL5SVQOoL2YLPcsrbAbm7IUImUaRYBmehbY3w3vGTy-yVZUltntUfC_-RLOkQuk2Yu5ZDZCuvtqyc2Ew-87c5whHPRUImg/s1600/IMG_0228.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAFEgfOIOv5jo89ix4p7uGwleTw9l9QLRvCZ-CIW3fziUxkSL5SVQOoL2YLPcsrbAbm7IUImUaRYBmehbY3w3vGTy-yVZUltntUfC_-RLOkQuk2Yu5ZDZCuvtqyc2Ew-87c5whHPRUImg/s320/IMG_0228.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Finally Ted had to head back to NYC, just in time to see the great tree lit...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1DfOOQlgEnCiB83AnkEQ0Noh-q21xUF8JW-JBOWEAXI8oHNa9lCMGUYTVs78NjJPy55yh0HxcGEsQHgoaDC1uYrBpLBXqjcFVePvHFalc4MSmcttPv33L6y0i5Ke7yX7WfBVrNFwabnQ/s1600/IMG_0229.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1DfOOQlgEnCiB83AnkEQ0Noh-q21xUF8JW-JBOWEAXI8oHNa9lCMGUYTVs78NjJPy55yh0HxcGEsQHgoaDC1uYrBpLBXqjcFVePvHFalc4MSmcttPv33L6y0i5Ke7yX7WfBVrNFwabnQ/s320/IMG_0229.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I can only assume from the photos that the area was packed with spectators who wanted to watch the giant NYC Christmas Tree get lit in Rockefeller Center. (See our earlier post for more info on the tree and topper!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpUUMNDHqPHJCPUSLuDcPPvfOUg-iUORkMH4JlEDjkhzd36COAiFVAW5g5ihObzNuEKaOvvYedZT2-j93_X52plvZSFqVgQzWFzFf2D7yiliqpVJq0xonhFxoLF6h4RziW4FZKepKA4wI/s1600/IMG_0233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpUUMNDHqPHJCPUSLuDcPPvfOUg-iUORkMH4JlEDjkhzd36COAiFVAW5g5ihObzNuEKaOvvYedZT2-j93_X52plvZSFqVgQzWFzFf2D7yiliqpVJq0xonhFxoLF6h4RziW4FZKepKA4wI/s320/IMG_0233.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And, in all of its lit-up glory:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSCgv8d2lsQKOjEd2Y6tyMGizp6xMyCf5CBfJ_fdTdM6gSEqLgSxC9Eo-5VTHFhxusQZfmz0jxd30LiJEVMciDOFdEaNJgs2lTaPVZiGoPtqwmGzciIPDWwAA8SQmE6Ulhr4BmDV64oE0/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSCgv8d2lsQKOjEd2Y6tyMGizp6xMyCf5CBfJ_fdTdM6gSEqLgSxC9Eo-5VTHFhxusQZfmz0jxd30LiJEVMciDOFdEaNJgs2lTaPVZiGoPtqwmGzciIPDWwAA8SQmE6Ulhr4BmDV64oE0/s320/photo.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

Remember to stay tuned in the coming days/weeks: Ted has already arrived in Guadalajara and Tina is soon to be on her way there as well. They expect to be visiting the fabulous Sunday market and the beach over the next two weeks! In keeping up with current events, Ted had to visit Wall St. Although there doesn't seem to be any protesters in these shots, the police presence is unmistakable!<br />

However, Ted has been as busy as ever: visiting the signs around NYC before heading to Mexico for Christmas.<br />
<br />
Here he is, at the 9/11 memorial:<br />
<br />

Ted the Traveling Turtle is finally getting out and about in the Big Apple, just in time for the holidays. His first stop, like many a tourist this time of year, is to Rockefeller Center. You may recognize some of these locations from movies, postcards, and the title sequence to one of Ted's favorite shows, 30 Rock!<br />
<br />

<ul><li>Rockefeller Center opened in May 1933. It employed over 40,000 people, an impressive number, considering it was built in the middle of the Great Depression.</li>
<li>The complex spans an area of 22 acres</li>
<li>Rockefeller Center was named a national landmark in 1987</li>
<li>The Center's design team had the belief that "art was an act of good citizenship" and designed the complex in classic Art Deco</li>
<li>there are indeed 488 elevators in Rockefeller Center</li>
<li>The famous Rainbow Room is located on Floor 65 of the center</li>
</ul><br />

He would rather watch people slip on the ice at one of the nations most famous ice rinks.<br />
<ul><li> This skating rink is only 122 feet long and 59 feet wide and can accommodate up to 150 people</li>
<li>It made its first debut in 1936 to attract visitors to the Plaza, and has since become a permanent fixture</li>

<ul><li>Notable shows taped at this NBC Studios: Jeapordy (1964-1975), Late Night with David Letterman (1982-1993), Saturday Night Live (1975-present), and The Tonight Show (1957-1972)</li>
<li>Radio City Music Hall, home of the Rockettes, was declared a city landmark in 1978</li>
<li>It houses a 6,000 seat historic concert hall.</li>
<li>When it first opened, Radio City was supposed to be a place for live plays, but the sound was lost in the cavernous theater. It was then converted to a feature film theater with a stage.</li>
<li>The first film ever shown there was Frank Capra's The Bitter Tea of General Yen, which continued until 1979 with four complete performances a day</li>

<ul><li>The tree is generally between 75 and 90 feet tall and requires over five miles of lights to decorate</li>
<li>The first Christmas tree to be debuted at Rockefeller Center was in 1933</li>

<ul><li>This star's 12 rays have 720 LED bulbs on 3,000 feet of wired to create the twinkling effect through custom light sequencing</li>
<li>It is composed of 25,000 crystals with 1,000,000 facets</li>
<li>It measures 9 1/2 feet in diameter and is 1 1/2 feet deep</li>
<li>It weighs 550 lbs, including the 300 lbs of crystals</li>
<li>The star was created by nine artisans over 1,200 hours.</li>

Ted is in New York!<br />
<br />
Ted's good buddy C's big bro M lives in Manhattan just south of Central Park. On his most recent visit to the west coast, C stashed our beloved turtle in M's luggage and he stowed away all the way to the Big Apple.<br />
<br />
Here is Ted hanging out in M's apartment, catching up on some video games:<br />

Ted's first official outing in the Big City was to the New York City ING Marathon. He scored a primo spot at the north east corner of Central Park, watching the runners fly by:<br />

<br />
<br />
Last night, Tina was privileged to attend ZooBoo, an event hosted by the <a href="http://www.fresnochaffeezoo.org/">Fresno Chaffee Zoo</a> where kids come out in full Halloween costume to trick-or-treat at merchant booths. Tina got to hang out with the crew from both the Clovis and River Park <a href="http://www.chipotle.com/">Chipotle Mexican Grill</a>.<br />
<br />
Instead of candy, this year Chipotle opted to hand out little bookmarks embedded with the restaurant's signature ingredient: cilantro. The kids (and parents) could soak the bookmarks in water and plant them to watch their own cilantro grow.<br />
<br />
A great time was had by all. If you live in the Fresno/Clovis area and have young children, the ZooBoo is a great, safe trick-or-treating event for the whole family. It is going on next weekend, 10/28-29 from 5-8 at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj29pOHI70cxPjIFJ3DLvIB_7S3y5pdOiPyyqRu3L1GEu1DI4NQIAl7XIPCifHri9PyEFYjI3k2nW4xeQrJADJMdbaiUwE3Q6idKhaYEpA0Pn073C_iJgStd5Y30d-AbzVkUSRRH1eguEE/s1600/100_0728.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj29pOHI70cxPjIFJ3DLvIB_7S3y5pdOiPyyqRu3L1GEu1DI4NQIAl7XIPCifHri9PyEFYjI3k2nW4xeQrJADJMdbaiUwE3Q6idKhaYEpA0Pn073C_iJgStd5Y30d-AbzVkUSRRH1eguEE/s320/100_0728.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Obviously, the first stop for any morning fair-goer must be the Country Fair Cinnamon Roll stand. Julie orders an original roll with cream cheese frosting, while B (of http://cachingontheroad.blogspot.com/) LOVES getting a plain original roll extracted from the very center of the pan.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0NqQAJqLS7BuTAFuR7mPEArdO4mWgcnDjUobMso971fYpSQoIcO14WabfpxvGFUHGI6T6O1tZbPt0xpSCR2L2r-GQkcLArymQJ3yLaya8PHRXKIw-A24ZKVNUjPddoUVrqBflNML6sdU/s1600/100_0731.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0NqQAJqLS7BuTAFuR7mPEArdO4mWgcnDjUobMso971fYpSQoIcO14WabfpxvGFUHGI6T6O1tZbPt0xpSCR2L2r-GQkcLArymQJ3yLaya8PHRXKIw-A24ZKVNUjPddoUVrqBflNML6sdU/s320/100_0731.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Here is a face frequent readers may recognize, although most of the time only her hands were in the photos. Jenny was Ted's handler on his cross-country trip. She also is the superintendent of the Greenhouse at the Fair. She took a break off from being busy busy busy to give Tina a tour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhClelqeeTq7Ytf1SKwuwm_8t_0dVZia0CmEYqKa_xxZc47wcvQ6HsBifJWb5vT7zD21C81xBXdE10ZI1hFVqeUyhxtKJww2wg08s7UpDOhy4mb0Jliem8KYgj-3QNnCd952_llfVFWG74/s1600/100_0729.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhClelqeeTq7Ytf1SKwuwm_8t_0dVZia0CmEYqKa_xxZc47wcvQ6HsBifJWb5vT7zD21C81xBXdE10ZI1hFVqeUyhxtKJww2wg08s7UpDOhy4mb0Jliem8KYgj-3QNnCd952_llfVFWG74/s320/100_0729.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>The Greenhouse is split into two halves, a professional side and a student side. All the plants on the student side are available for bidding. Here Tina surveys the plants for sale, although she was not too fond of the dry plants. The Greenhouse doesn't showcase aquatic plants (yet).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN2f_Jm3Bx0x0PvbbmK_8tMVwbvNt7BK3W_RIsNjX9VTpJQoZMhGd9KJR2aPnNgnX2wN7-PFrp39fVHWf2hUb_VbvPYjRYeesef6yJD48ksl6Xo-xqSZq_bXauQDwB6WPQzA3wcIPaKMo/s1600/100_0733.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN2f_Jm3Bx0x0PvbbmK_8tMVwbvNt7BK3W_RIsNjX9VTpJQoZMhGd9KJR2aPnNgnX2wN7-PFrp39fVHWf2hUb_VbvPYjRYeesef6yJD48ksl6Xo-xqSZq_bXauQDwB6WPQzA3wcIPaKMo/s320/100_0733.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>The Greenhouse also houses a domestic bird display from Whitie's Pets. The yellow bird in this photo was kind of a staff favorite, he only had one leg. He was still very happy and active, though. Tina thought he was a trooper!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU9HzI0Wta2KbDRNAWmk6r8puD3PTEGAA7OlCbrQU2boNBfR9kLNIQo0DqHUhHVfcq3GXTQ7HaThpEogSQ1qiRJEhrPpVVn6-dWmABTmbAjvo5yH2HVgKvy_5MEdvkgCkDYh0l_8kVeGg/s1600/100_0732.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU9HzI0Wta2KbDRNAWmk6r8puD3PTEGAA7OlCbrQU2boNBfR9kLNIQo0DqHUhHVfcq3GXTQ7HaThpEogSQ1qiRJEhrPpVVn6-dWmABTmbAjvo5yH2HVgKvy_5MEdvkgCkDYh0l_8kVeGg/s320/100_0732.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Tina got to experience the joys of bonsai at the Fair: being small enough that they ALMOST look like real trees!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1JWKBvZ6H4pImaEUu5ZrWUYSt3CH-ZSjzj59_PLHitkCO5scGIkLbINw5zVWEjeNA0nHEy4HYtjP1hMx9LCLbnZuHOHZvOwd54LvU6YOZ29435KiDo_qcp9ARIcZ7MeQ7DtBQlWcdboQ/s1600/100_0734.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1JWKBvZ6H4pImaEUu5ZrWUYSt3CH-ZSjzj59_PLHitkCO5scGIkLbINw5zVWEjeNA0nHEy4HYtjP1hMx9LCLbnZuHOHZvOwd54LvU6YOZ29435KiDo_qcp9ARIcZ7MeQ7DtBQlWcdboQ/s320/100_0734.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Tina even found something smaller than she is! The miniature flower arrangements!<br />
<br />
Stay tuned for part 2!<br />

Tina the Traveling Turtle is Ted's brand new girlfriend (although she has been on a few outings prior to this posting). At the moment, Ted is on a mission to infiltrate the local high school cafeteria kitchen, so Tina is updating the blog for him.<br />
<br />
Tina is a genuine BLUE sea turtle, hailing from Pismo Beach, CA, just like Ted. They met in the local kite shop, while checking out some pretty rad photo magnets and beach toys. Although she loves Ted very much and will be very sad to leave him, Tina is destined to join the company of T&B of http://cachingontheroad.blogspot.com/ . Tina will then be providing regular updates to this blog while Ted and his good buddies (Julie and C) are studying hard and working hard, respectively.<br />
<br />
UPCOMING TINA & TED EVENTS:<br />
<br />
Pre-Thanksgiving (tenative): Tina will(/may) be traveling to the Oregon coast to visit Julie's aunts recently built house.<br />
Thanksgiving: Ted & Tina will travel to beautiful Bakersfield to spend time with Julie and C's family<br />
Pre-Christmas: Ted or Tina will be flying all the way to gorgeous MEXICO, crossing international borders for the VERY FIRST TIME! Yay!<br />
New Years: Tina will be leaving with T&B for about 6 months, Ted may be traveling to celebrate New Years Eve in the OC :)<br />
<br />
If you can think of any places Ted and/or Tina should visit, either around the Central Valley or across the country, submit your suggestions in the comments!JWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16497104825323236492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6150995506984714530.post-8621571202109986602011-08-12T10:38:00.000-07:002011-08-12T10:38:30.487-07:00Ted Goes on Summer Vacation! (part 6)Ted's final stop for his summer vacation was to the beautiful Pismo Beach for the annual Clayton Family Reunion. Tradition dictates that the Clayton family first started visiting Pismo in August to clam the shores. Now we just go and BBQ some huge oysters.<br />
<br />
Ted didn't like the idea of getting grilled like these oysters (and other things) but he said "anything for a photo op!"<br />

(part 5)Ted's first art related stop was at the "World's Smallest Art Gallery". Truly, the gallery is smaller than a closet and houses rotating exhibits by local artists.<br />

(part 4)Towards the end of the night, Ted started getting a hankering for something sweet. Lo and behold, the Deep Fried Banana and Nutella Crepe came to the rescue. SO GOOD!<br />

Besides the concert itself, tickets to the Weezer concert included free OC Fair admission and a free ride on the La Grande Wheel, the fair's big huge Ferris Wheel. From here, Ted could see the whole fair all lit up.<br />

The next morning, Ted (and family) woke up bright and early (read: 11 a.m. [hey! we're on vacation here!]) to drive from Orange, CA (where TERI's house is) to Venice Beach, CA (the best place to meet crazies and buy cool arts/crafts). Here you can see the ideal traffic situation. We only experienced about 15 minutes (total) of this kind of traffic.<br />
<br />

After lunch, Ted tried to run away to his home in the waves. After a few unsuccessful tries, a waterlogged little sea turtle returned to mom's warm beach bag for a well deserved nap.<br />

(part 3)C (Ted's partner in crime) convinced Julie to ride the OC Fair's famous ski lift ride again (after a quite nerve wrecking ride last year). More, he convinced her to let him hold Ted over the crowd (over 162 feet below) to take a photo. Julie almost had a heart attack FOR Ted, because as you can see, he was quite happy.<br />

Ted (and family) gave in a shelled out $1 a piece (Ted was free) to see the "Giant Florida Gator". However, Ted was only mildly impressed after watching the last half of the latest season of Swamp People on the History Channel. Also, the gator looked quite dead.<br />

Although the fair's livestock exhibition ended a few weeks ago, Ted still got to see some pretty impressive animals. This steer was the "coolest": laying down in the shade and chewing the cud.<br />

The OC Fair features an outdoor and indoor floriculture exhibit, both difficult to find. Ted only found this one, and had to take a photo to document his feat.<br />

The fair also has a section called Centennial Farm much like the California State Fair with life crops growing and examples of farm animals. <br />

And now: ON TO THE MAIN EVENT! Ted really came to the fair to see his favorite band: WEEZER! The show was amazing, although pictures are slim because the camera batteries (Kodak brand -.- ) died. Fear not! Fun was had by all!<br />
<br />

(part 2)The theme of this year's OC Fair is "Let's Eat!". It must be said the Ted's mother does not condone eating ice, but she had no complaints about the beautiful Ice Museum exhibit. Ted was quite comfortable around this (ice) jellyfish. Because he is a SEA turtle, you see!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj5rPi3X_Nw_IIvZFvJZVXw43tMQPZrpvyz9EP03ptwHamrf073AMLH6BZzq6WCetc-yB0D0kaUOS-lhcGUPnk-pH-1FQP3cnF6cfruB-HDl9gGsWWYbZTm7SmoopXZrH_C8u83PWDmik/s1600/100_0260.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj5rPi3X_Nw_IIvZFvJZVXw43tMQPZrpvyz9EP03ptwHamrf073AMLH6BZzq6WCetc-yB0D0kaUOS-lhcGUPnk-pH-1FQP3cnF6cfruB-HDl9gGsWWYbZTm7SmoopXZrH_C8u83PWDmik/s320/100_0260.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
And with the angelfish, he was quite at home. Although he thought she was a bit cold.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-lrzSvholzSn4jFxaLWnx8Jtp27m5jAL-Z1uS8TEUP7P3EE12E3t3JUsfu9Q3s4p200SN_x_0Jk7UqF9mhN_hVJ2DnBMcK_cFKwDH02oR2SC-Ko3KEiEPhFT4sKR4tLQWPdkKVTaRX-I/s1600/100_0264.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-lrzSvholzSn4jFxaLWnx8Jtp27m5jAL-Z1uS8TEUP7P3EE12E3t3JUsfu9Q3s4p200SN_x_0Jk7UqF9mhN_hVJ2DnBMcK_cFKwDH02oR2SC-Ko3KEiEPhFT4sKR4tLQWPdkKVTaRX-I/s320/100_0264.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Ted was super excited to see the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Chainsaw-Chicks/135338579874440?sk=wall#%21/pages/The-Chainsaw-Chicks/135338579874440">Chainsaw Chicks</a> carve up a blizzard right outside the Ice Museum. <br />

[insert photo of finished ice sculptures here that Julie forgot to take]<br />
<br />
These girls chainsaw-ed an angelfish and dolphin out of those ice blocks in 7 minutes. SO IMPRESSIVE! Even more impressive: how patient they were with the crazy girl with a stuffed turtle who wanted a photo with them. Here is the result:<br />

But he couldn't make it two hours without breakfast at McDonald's. Here is is at the McFarland Mickey D's getting his egg McMuffin on.<br />

Ted's mom bravely drove through all the L.A. traffic to get Ted safely to the Orange County Fairgrounds for his first stop.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaPO30K7Cexw7LfxARFOFftHKCb1hOalFFDIULyGKXDmpuEKkiBX1Nnj20ulgYkMv0KRMnyM2RhlTy5iZBOSL_nzeatBEDHVzIPw6T6u3G2UIPMRN84vPF6fGV-j-aOgzO3N8UFu4xs98/s1600/100_0240.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaPO30K7Cexw7LfxARFOFftHKCb1hOalFFDIULyGKXDmpuEKkiBX1Nnj20ulgYkMv0KRMnyM2RhlTy5iZBOSL_nzeatBEDHVzIPw6T6u3G2UIPMRN84vPF6fGV-j-aOgzO3N8UFu4xs98/s320/100_0240.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Ted's first photo op came in the form of the fair's cool cow.<br />
<br />

And of course, he had to stop for a world famous Old West Cinnamon Roll. Soon Ted will be eating the best cinnamon rolls on the Pacific Coast in Pismo Beach.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKWZd9EeIFejBEMHkoe4AHOdUHmZplELi7dRQ9u0RqN0EBfTuyfPLtcQfub26YWpwfacXdRZkIQA80Xzhit-_B4gBskvHBO9Ukn1az4erMF0al5z9seydbjvKXErU3v8ePpjVpHZC3A_E/s1600/100_0244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKWZd9EeIFejBEMHkoe4AHOdUHmZplELi7dRQ9u0RqN0EBfTuyfPLtcQfub26YWpwfacXdRZkIQA80Xzhit-_B4gBskvHBO9Ukn1az4erMF0al5z9seydbjvKXErU3v8ePpjVpHZC3A_E/s320/100_0244.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
While touring the Woodworking building for Ted's <a href="http://cachingontheroad.blogspot.com/">grandparents</a> he found a man making "crazy puzzles". They have no flat edges and are painted the same on both sides. This small one took about 5 minutes to complete by Teds cohort, C. The man tells us that these puzzles can be completed then picked up by one of the knobby bits and hung from the wall. Ted was too scared of ruining his good work to try.<br />
<br />

The fair's theme this year is "Let's Eat!" and the exhibition building showcased sustainable eating habits and lifestyles. See if you can find Ted in the Fair's "Live Eat Grow" sign!<br />

Ted visited the Leaning Water Tower in Groom, TX. The water tower no longer functions, and is purely decorative now. Ralph Britten bought it after it was slated for demolition and used it as a sign for his truck stop and tourist info center. For Christmas, the town of Groom lights up a large star on the top of the tower.<br />

Ted made a stop at the Knute Rockne memorial in KC. I am told that someone we are related to knew him!<br />

<ul><li>The memorial honors those who lost their lives in the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19,1995</li>
<li>The Memorial features eleven different segments:</li>
<ul><li>The Gates of Time: Twin bronze gates frame the moment of destruction (9:02) and mark the formal entrances to the Outdoor Memorial. 9:01, on the eastern gate represents the last moments of peace and 9:03 on the western gate represents the first moments of recovery</li>
<li>The Reflecting Pool: Visitors seeing their reflections are seeing "someone changed forever by what happened here"</li>
<li>The Field of Empty Chairs (pictured below): 168 empty chairs made of glass, bronze, and stone represent those who lost their lives, with a name etched into the glass base of each. The chairs represent empty chairs at the dinner tables of the victim's families. They are arranged in nine rose for the nine floors of the building, with each person's chair on the row(floor) on which the person worked or was located when the bomb went off. The five westernmost chairs represent five people who died but were not in the actual building. 19 small chairs represent children who died. Three unborn children died with their mothers and their names are listed beneath their mothers on their chairs.</li>
<li>The Survivors Wall (also pictured below): The only remaining portions of the building are the southeast corner and part of the south wall. The wall includes several panels of granite salvaged from the building itself, inscribed with the names of more than 600 survivors from the building and surrounding area, many of whom were injured in the blast.</li>
<li>The Survivor Tree: an American elm on the north side of the Memorial was the onyl shade tree in the parking lot across the street from the building. commuters arrived early to get a spot under its branches. The tree is over 100 years old and survived not only the blast, which ripped most of its branches off, but also the investigation, when workers wanted to chop it down for evidence. Seeds from the tree are planted and the saplings are distributed each year on the anniversary of the bombing.</li>
<li>The Memorial Fence: A chain link fence was erected around the Reflecting Pool and Field of Empty Chairs to protect them from damage. Mementos left by visitors at the fence are periodically collected, cataloged, and stored.</li>
<li>Rescuers' Orchard: A grove of Oklahoma redbuds, Amur Maple, Chinese Pistache, and Bosque Elm trees are planted around the Survivor Tree</li>
<li>Children's Area: 5,000 hand painted tiles form all over the US and Canada were made by children and sent to Oklahoma City after the bombing. Most of the tiles are stored in the archive, but a sampling is on the wall in the Children's Area. Chalkboards are provided where children can express their feelings.</li>
<li>And Jesus Wept: St. Joseph's Catholic Church erected a sculpture of Jesus weeping on a corner adjacent to the memorial. The church, one of the first brick-and-mortar churches, was almost destroyed by the blast.</li>
<li>Journal Record Building: North of the memorial is the Journal Record building, which used to house the offices of The Journal Record. It now houses the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum. Staff of the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism work here to spread knowledge of terrorism and its prevention.</li>
<li>ALfred P. Murrah Federal Building Plaza: The plaza is an original part of the federal building which includes a garden and seating areas and a playground for the daycare center. The original flagpole is still used for the American flag.</li>
